[NI138] Ambroise and his family lived at Ance a Pinet, Isle St. Jean in 1752. On March 9, 1759, the family arrived at St. Malo, France, aboard the DuSupply. Two of Ambroise and Isabel's children died on the voyage from Acadia to France. They lived at St. Suliac, France (1759-1772).

Ambroise Naquin, Isabel Bourg, his wife, and family of six persons were in the fourth convoy leaving Chatellerault for Nantes sometime during March 6 - 13, 1776. On June 20, 1785, the family (family number 24) boarded the St. Remi at St. Malo, France, and arrived in New Orleans, Louisiana, on November 9, 1785. There were a total of 341 passengers aboard, about 85 families. The passenger list shows: Ambroise (60) ploughman, Marie Naquin, his wife (46), and sons Joseph (19) carpenter, and Pierre (19) carpenter. The family moved to the Lafourche interior area aboard the schooner San Jose, which departed New Orleans on December 16, 1785.

There were a total of seven voyages from France to New Orleans to bring Acadiens to Louisiana.

Peter Melanson was a Scottish-born stone-cutter (tailleur de pierre) who was part of the retinue of the British Major Sedgewick and Sir Thomas Temple which explored Acadia, Port Royal, and its surroundings in 1654 and again in 1657. He and his brother Charles Melanson settled in Port Royal where they married locally. Peter Melanson married Marie-Marguerite Mius-D'Entremont, daughter of Philippe MIUS-D'ENTREMONT (see below) the Siegneur of Pubnico, and his wife Madeleine Elie. When Peter Melanson married, he converted to Catholicism and was then known as Pierre Melanon. Pierre Melanon and Pierre Thierot, son of Jean THIEROT and Perrine Bourg, co-founded the community of Grand PrŽ.

From Bona Arsenault's "Histoire et Genealotie des Acadiens", Volume 3, page 1262: Pierre MELANSON, Sieur de La Verdure, born in 1632, a stone mason, came to Acadia from Scotland by way of Boston about 1657. He married about 1664 to Marie Marguerite MIUS d'ENTREMONT, daughter of Philippe MIUS d'ENTREMONT of Pobomcoup (Pubnico, Nova Scotia) and Madeleine HELIE. Children: Philippe, b 1666; Cecile, b 1668; Pierre, b 1670; Marie, b 1673; Marguerite, b 1676; Isabelle, b 1679; Jean, b 1681; Madeleine, b 1684; Anne, b 1686; and Paul, b 1691. He lived at St. Charles de Mines Parish at Grand Pre, Nova Scotia.

FRENCH CANADIAN AND ACADIAN GENEALOGICAL REVIEW, Volume II, #4, Page 221. Pierre abjured and became Catholic.

NOGR, 1996, Page 113 - Pierre was the pioneer settler in 1680 of Grand Pre area of Bassin des Mines, north of Port Royal. He was named Major-in-Charge of the Militia Post. From the Canadian Archives, MG 18, H20: "I certify that Sieur Melancon, chief of the nation of Indians of all Acadia, as well as of French of that county, has rendered to me all sorts of services for the establishment of this colony, and that this establishment would not have been made without his help, and that I have retained for him, as his reward for his services which he rendered to my master, the King, the title of Colonel General of the Militia and Chief of the Indian nation. By misfortune, M. de Carillon, commanding the King's vessel, La Francoise, was taken by the English in the port of Le Have (sic), that Sieur de Melancon defrayed the expenses of all the crew and kept them at his house for six weeks without ever wishing any compensation more than to be useful to His Majesty. I certify further that after having made his abjuration and embraced the Catholic religion, he, by his example and exhortation, charged the inhabitants and Indians to be loyal to the King, to live and die in the faith of the Roman Religion. Done at Port Royal in Acadia, the first of March, 1704 and signed by: DeBrouillan [Acadian Governor Jacques Francois de Brouillan.]

I certify that Mademoiselle Melancon, wife of Sieur le Poupet de la Boularderie, is the daughter of Sieur Melancon, chief of the inhabitants of Acadia, and that during the space of five years that I governed in that country, I always used him to command the Militia as he had done in the time of governors who were my predecessors, that he has served with all zeal possible. I certify futher that after having made his abjuration and embraced the Catholic religion, he charged the inhabitants to be loyal to the King, to live and die in the Roman Catholic and Apostolic Religion. Done at Paris, the third of August, 1727 and signed by: De Subercase, former governor of Acadia [ Daniel Auger, Sieur de Subercase.]"

Originally from Normandy, France, Mius-D'Entremont arrived in Acadia in 1651 as the major-general of Charles de la Tour. He brought with him his wife Madeleine Helie and their two-year old daughter, Marguerite who later would marry Peter MELANSON. In 1653 Philippe was given the title Lord Pobomcoup (Seigneur de Pobomcoup) and given lands in the peninsula of Cap-de-Sable. In later life, he served as Prosecutor (procurer du Roi) in Port Royal. Two of his sons would marry the daughters of Charles de la Tour.

This Brief History of the Melanson Family is from the home page of Mike Melanson (http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Meadows/7961/meltwo.html)

The Melansons in Acadia:
Many a writer has tried to explain the origins of this family. It was generally believed that the Melanson were of Scottish origin, but this assumption was based on a historic mistake. There is no document that demonstrates that the Melansons who came to Acadia were of Scottish decent, in fact to the contrary there is proof that they were of English decent.

The two Melanson brothers, PIERRE, dit Laverdure, a stonemason, born in 1632, the spouse of Marie Marguerite Muis d'Entremont, the daughter of the Lord of Pomcoup, Philippe Mius d 'Entremont, and CHARLES, born in 1643, the husband of Marie Dugas, daughter of Armourer Abraham Dugas and Marguerite Doucet of Port Royal, arrived in Port Royal accompanied their parents aboard the ship the Satisfaction, with Sir Thomas Temple, the new English Governor of Acadia, which arrived in 1657. During almost a century, just until the deportation of the Acadians in 1755, the settlement was the place of residence of Charles Melanson and his wife Marie Dugas, and their descendents and associates.

"The Melanson Settlement" is one of the principle Canadian archeological sites illustrating the way of rural life in Acadia in the 17th and 18th centuries. It is a mirror of the various aspects "of the daily life, their homes, material culture and their prosperity. 1755: DEPORTATION: In the Autumn of 1755, 1660 Acadians of the region of Port Royal embarked on the ships towards exile. Charles and Ambroise Melanson took refuge in Quebec, while Jean Melanson and his family were refugies in France with a group of Acadians Cape Sable. Others were deported to Maryland and other States. The Melanson like hundreds of other Acadians were imprisoned in the military fortresses which were neither more or less than concentration camps. At gun point, English soldiers forced them to work for them. The Melansons were imprisoned at Forts Cumberland and Edward.

Today, this large Acadian family the name of [MELANSON] MELANSON-MELANCON-MALANSON-MALONSON can be found in all of Canada, the United States and in France. These Acadians all descendents of PIERRE and CHARLES MELANSON arrived in Acadia during 3 ½ centuries. The majority of Charles' descendents returned to the former Acadia, resettling in Nova Scotia and Southern New Brunswick, and in the USA in the States of Maine and Massachusetts, most continuing to spell their name Melanson, but some have changed to Malanson and Malonson. The majority of Pierre's descendents however did not return, resettling in Louisiana, Quebec, and Northern New Brunswick, in the Bathurst region. It is this branch of the family that today predominately spells their name MELANCON. The only descendent of Pierre known to have returned to Nova Scotia was Charles Marie who settled in Pomquet after returning with his mother from exile in France.

Information below from Steve Fleming
http://www.erols.com/someday/Melanson.html#47

C.T. Breaux, UNE LIGNEE NOBLE EN FRANCE, QUBEC, ACADIA, LOUSIANE, Revised 2 Jun 1986. "As a result of the fall of La Rochelle in 1628, when the death blow was delivered to the Calvinists in France, Pierre went to England where he married. He and Priscilla had three sons at least, all born in England. In the spring of 1657 the family embarked in England on board the vessel Satisfaction, under the command of Captain Peter Butler, forming part of the company which Thomas Temple was transporting to Acadia, over which he had been named Governor after its capture by the English. Having first stopped at Boston, Captain Butler next went to the fort on the St. John River, where a group of his passengers disembarked, and finally to Port Royal. It appears the LAVERDURE (or Melanson, as they were also known) family stopped at Fort St. John. After the Treaty of Breda, under which in 1667 England ceded Acadia to France, Pierre and Priscilla went to seek refuge under the Protestant government at Boston, leaving behind in Acadia two of his sons, Pierre and Charles, with their young children."

Daniel's birth information: Microfilm #8631806-53/#5001364-2 IGI France, 0 0016
________

Early immigrant to Port Royal in about the year 1645 with other French colonists and settled according to Placid GAUDET) on the north side of Port Royal River, to the north-east of the Belisle march, about 9 miles from the fort, half a mile from St. Laurent Chappel. He weded a widower Francoise GAUDET about the year 1642(45?). He was one of the principal citizens of the area and on 24 May 1690, when Sir William PHIPPS (who had just taken over the place) ordered the inhabitants to select six from among them to form a council that would ensure that peace & justice would prevail, Daniel was one of those selected. (this version filed at Public Archives Halifax, MG100 Vol.134 #23A)

According to a census in 1671, Port Royal, Daniel was listed as a labourer, aged 45 years, 7 children, 1 girl, 6 boys. His wife was 48. Livestock totaled 18 cattle with horns and 26 female sheep. They worked on 10 acres of land that was located in two different places. They were buried in the French cemetary at Port Royal (after they died of course...).

One relavent document dated 05 Oct 1687 concerns a deposition made by Daniel. This concerns work done in Acadia by the Sire of AULNAY before his death in 1650. Among those who signed, there was "the mark of" Daniel, he therefore arrived in Acadia before the death of AULNAY in June 1650.

Sketch of Le Blanc's by Placid Gaudet
On file at The Public Archives of Nova Scotia, Halifax. file # 1319528 0.111 page 207 (the grammer was so bad in this document, I decided to rewrite some of it)

The following sketch of the Le Blanc family is given in connection with the services of Bishop Le Blanc in the Saint John Telegraph at that time.

From Placid Gaudet, of the department of Archives, Ottawa. The Telegraph secured the following information regarding the genealogy of Bishop Designate Le Blanc. Mr. Gaudet is an expert in matters pertaining to the Acadians and this History of the family of the Bishop of Saint John, which contains matters of historical interest.

Daniel Le Blanc, Mr Gaudet said, the father of Canadian Le Blanc's was born in France in 1626 and was married to FRANCOIS GAUDET in the spring of 1650. In the same summer, he emigrated with several others to Port Royal, now called Annapolis Royal, and settled on the north side of the Annapolis which runs along the Belle Isle march. His family consisted of seven children who were all born there. Six sons and one daughter. The daughter married MARTIN BLANCHARD and died while still a young woman. One of the sons took up a seafaring life and left home. Another four left Port Royal in 1687 and settled in Minas Basin, Hants County, and the son of one of these brothers, called RENE fathered a son RENE Le BLANC, the Notary Public of Mines at the time of the Explusion of the Acadians in 1755 and is refered to in Longfellow's poem, Evangeline.

The youngest of the family named Pierre made his home with his father and mother on the old homestead. Pierre married twice, his second wife being MADELINE BOURG. He died at Annapolis River sometime in 1717. His youngest son Charles was born in September 1716 and married MADELINE GIROURD on January 10 1735. At the time of the Expulsion, he escaped
deportation by crossing over the North Mountain with several other Acadians, and sailed the bay of Fundy as far as Chutes Cove where several other Acadians landed some time before escaping government officals. Several fishing boats had been hidden there and they sailed up river some 24 miles to a place now called Morden. They stayed there until December 9th of the same year.

Having learned from the micmac indians that all the inhabitants of Annapolis Royal and Annapolis River were embarking onboard vessels (in all about 1663 souls) they figured their refuse was not safe. Some of those who sailed, were bound for Boston, Connecticut and others for New York, while the Snow Pembroke [ship] bound for North Carolina had sailed from Annapolis on December 8th.

This confirmed Le Blanc's beliefs and he and his companions of misfortune numbering 120 men, women and children embarked in their boats and decended the Bay of Fundy as far as Dittle Passage by which they entered St Mary's Bay, and from there, sailed up the river about 5 miles. In the second week of December, they were overtaken by a snow storm and landed at a place, which is now known as Major Doucets point. There they passed the winter of 1755-1756. Early in the spring the Acadians left again on heir fishing boats and sailed back down St Mary's Bay and entered the Bay of Fundy by the Grand Passage. They went to Grand Manan Island and from ther came to St. John, where they learned that some weeks before their arrival that the Snow Pembroke, carrying 230 passengers to North Carolina, had already arrived at St. John. The Acadians who were aboard the Pembroke had revolted, seized the ship and brought it there. Charles decided to follow them and went up river to Nerepis where there had formally been a fort.

In later years several of them went to the province of Quebec. Le Blanc and his party went to Cumberland Basin and then to Shepody Bay and to Petitcodiac River where they asended as far as Moncton which was then known as "The Bend".

The misery of the adventurer's was terrible here. There was no food or supplies of any kind that would keep them in comfort for the winter, and after hearing that at Cocagne, there was a company of Acadians, they made for that point. From Cocagne, they went to Miriamichi, where they divided again. Some of them remained, while others, including Charles Le Blanc and his family, returned to Richibucto Harbor, which they entered and sailed a small river called the Aldhouane. It was here they found other Acadians who had taken refuge there.

They remained from the summer of 1756 until the summer of 1760. An arrangement was made with Colonel Frye, Commanding Officer at Fort Cumberland, with the principle Acadians who had taken refuge at Richibucto, Miramichi, Cocagne, Peticodiac, At the Bend (Moncton) and Memramcook, for the "submission of the Acadians" to the English Government. Hearing this on their arrival, Le Blanc and others with their families including Belliveau, went back to Annapolis. In 1763, a census was taken, counting approximately 92 souls.

In December 1767, those Acadians who were at Annapolis Royal and at Windsor, requested, from the Government of Halifax, grants of land with the promise that they would take the Oath of Allegiance to the British Government. This request was granted and in July of 1768, the Halifax Government issued a permit of occupation to the 44 Acadians at Windsor & Annapolis on land to the south side of Saint Mary's Bay. The territory was named the Township of Clare, which is now one of the Townships of Digby. Joseph Dugas, who is one of the Acadians named in the census of 1763, was first to avail himself of the authority. He and his wife and a young daughter, 3 1/2 years of age, set out on foot from Annapolis and walked the distance of 45 miles arriving in 1766 at the same place where Le Blanc and his companions had passed the winter of 1755/1756, that is to say at Major Doucets Point.

The year following, Dugas and several others came from Windsor and Annapolis amongst whom were Jean Belliveau and Charles Le Blanc. They each choose a lot of land and began to erect a log house, while their families remained in Annapolis, (This was revealed by their names appearing on a return of the inhabitants of Annapolis Royal in 1770 and not in 1771). The church of the old Acadian missionaries, who paid annual visits to St. Mary's Bay, made mention that Charles Le Blanc and his family were amongst the principle Acadian pioneers of St. Mary's Bay and settled about 2 miles from Weymouth bridge and the place where he raised his homestead has been known for years by the name of Le Blanc's Cove. It is there that Le Blanc died in 1805 and was buried in the old graveyard at Church Point, six miles from where he made his settlement.

He had six children, 3 sons, and 3 daughters. The elder of the sons was called Charles and he was married in Clare about 1850. The second son was Joseph and was born in 1786 and married in 1813 to Rosalie Theriault, by whom he had nine children. Luke, one of these children was born in 1824 and married in 1854 to Julia Belliveau. This couple settled in the township of Clare at a place called Ohio, where Luke died in 1891. His wife died in 1907 and was buried by her son Edward Alfred, the Bishop. b.15 Oct 1870, Ohio Nova Scotia.....Thus ends this narrative.

"It has been shown that antoine and Etienne Hebert, the progenitors of Acadian Heberts, were brothers. For a long time it was thought that they had a third brother, Jacques, and were sons of Jacques Hebert and marie Juneau of France. It has since been shown that Jacques (Jr. and Sr.) were actually haberts, and not related to Antoine and Etienne. We stil do not know the exact origin of these two brothers.

"It is commonly assumed that antoine married Genevieve in France. DeSaulnier says Antoine had married earlier in France and had left behind four children in France. His birth year, according to census reports, ranges from 1614 to 1621. His arrival date in Acadia is unknown. Some say he came in 1640, while others put the date closer to 1648. Since neither he nor Etienne produced children before 1648, the latter dat may be more accurate.

Information below from Peter Landry
http://www.blupete.com/Genealogy/LandryOA.htm

René Landry (René, le Jeune) (c.1640-c.1692) of Port Royal:
I came to the conclusion, as previously noted, that René, [#11] was the son of [#1] and not another unrelated Landry as some authors have thought. What we know is that he resided at Port Royal and, in 1662, married Marie Bernard. Marie died in 1719 and was buried at Port Royal. Fourteen children were born to René and Marie, seven were males: Claude (b.1663 [#111], Jean (b.1666 [#112])14, René (b.1668 [#113]), Germain (b.1674 [#114]), Abraham (b.1678 [#115]), Pierre (b.1680 [#116]), & Charles (b.c.1686 [#117]). In the census of 1678, we see this second Rene with Marie and their children living on 12 acres of land and possess 20 head of cattle. It should be noted that Rene[#11] and Marie were not listed in the first census of 1671. Further, I might add, has Rene[#11] ever been listed as son of Rene[#1]: so, the mystery of the two Renés continues. Also, I had, earlier on in my research, concluded (I am not now sure now on what basis) that 18 year old Antoine[#13] was living with his brother in the 1678 census; but, it may well be, he was the son of René[#11], which, on further research, seems to be the more sensible conclusion.

Information from Steve Fleming
http://www.erols.com/someday/

While CLAUDE'S birth certificate is not available, the first Census of Acadia in 1671, records him to be 34 years of age at the time. It is therefore safe to assume that Claude was born ABT 1637". This same census indicates that CLAUDE owned six cattles and one sheep. The Port Royal Acadian census of 1678-79 indicates that CLAUDE TERRIOT and Marie Gautrot owned 3 acres of land, and 5 cattles. At the time, they had 3 boys age 16 (born in 1662), age 9 (born in 1669), age 1 (born in 1677) and four girls; age 14 (born in 1664), age 12 (born in 1666), age 8 (born in 1670) and age 4 (born in 1674). The children are not named in the Census.

Thibodeau was originally from Poitou, France and he came to Acadia in 1654 as part of the expedition of Emmanual LeBorge. In 1660 he married Jeanne Thierrot, daughter of Jean THIERROT and Perrine Bourg. He was the miller (meunier) at the PrŽ Ronde mill at the head of the Port Royal River, and in 1698 he founded the community of Chipoudy (now Hopewell, Nova Scotia).

Doucet served as the tutor of the children of Governor Charles D'Aulnay and later served as the commander (commandant de place) of Port Royal in 1654. His daughter Marguerite-Louise Doucet traveled to Acadia with him and later married Abraham DUGAS (see below).

Information on Germain Doucet is from Jackie Doucet Auclair (auclair@home.com) from Stephen A. White (1999) Dictionaire Genealogique Des Familles Acadiennes, Centre D'Etudes Acadiennes.

Information below from Peter Landry
http://www.blupete.com/Genealogy/LandryOA.htm

Claude Landry (1663-1747) of Port Royal:
Claude was the grandson of the first Landry in Acadia. It is calculated that he was born at Port Royal in 1663. I say calculated because there are few records to which one can refer prior to 1671, the date of the first census record to which a researcher might refer. All of the church records for the Acadian parishes have disappeared, except for those at Port Royal from 1707 onwards, Grand Pré from 1707, and at Beaubassin from 1712. "... no registers survive at all for Cobequit, the two churches at Pisiguit, the Rivière-aux-Canards, Chipody, the Pointe-de-Beauséjour, Tinamarre, Chebogue, ... or any of the lesser missions of old Acadia."15
Claude married at Port Royal, around 1684, Catherine Thibodeau. There was a second marriage to Marie Babin which took place around 1725, also at Port Royal. Indeed there was a third marriage (at the age of 78 years?) to Jeanne Bellemère at "Saint-Charles-des-Mines" on the 15th of May, 1741.
Claude had eleven children, four were males: Jean Baptiste (b.1686 [#1111], René (b.1688 [#1112]), Claude (b.1689 [#1113]), & Joseph (b.c.1708 [#1114]).

Bernard was a bricklayer (maon) who arrived in Acadia in 1641 from the town of Bouvoir-Sur-Mer in VendŽe, France. He was first in the service of adventuer-explorer Charles de la Tour, but later served under Charles D'Aulney at Fort Jemseq. When Charles de la Tour was recalled to France in 1645, Bernard returned with him, but his children, born to an unknown mother, remained in Acadia. Information below from Peter Landry
http://www.blupete.com/Genealogy/LandryOA.htm

René Landry (René, l'Aine)6 (b.1618) of Port Royal:
The search for the first Acadian Landry family likely should start in "la région de Loudun, département de la Viene, France."7A This is the place where René Landry was born in 1618. It is said that René's father was Jean Claude Landry born in c.1590 in Loudun; he was to marry Marie Sale.7B So, this genealogy might well have started in France, but your compiler is under restrictions of both time and money and so we start with a date which coincides with the arrival, in Acadia, of Isaac de Razilly.
Due to the efforts of Isaac de Razilly (1587-1635) and his successor, Charles de Menou D'Aulnay (c.1604-1650)8, it has been estimated, that about 120 permanent inhabitants came to Nova Scotia during a ten year period between 1632 and 1642: the "Brètagne Colonists." Razilly made his first trip to Nova Scotia in 1632, coming out only with workmen, no families. At any rate, there is no record of Acadian families prior to 1636. Likely, there were a few French families established in Nova Scotia before 1636; and, where so, it is further likely, that the wife was a full blooded Micmac. The first French Acadian families (women and children) came over in 1636. The Saint Jehan, "under the command of Captain Saunic weighed anchor at La Rochelle April 1, 1636, carrying 78 passengers and 18 crewmen ..."9 A precious passenger list, of this voyage in 1636 has survived and has been published10; it lists all the men and women who boarded the Saint-Jehan and includes names such as LeCreux (one of the leaders), Motin, Martin (farmer), LeMoine (farmer), Blanchard (vinegrower). Of this 1636 group, it would appear, out of 96, there were but eleven French women, I submit, the first ever to arrive and permanently settle in Acadia. The rest were workmen, most of whom would have returned back to France within a year or two of their arrival.11
Thus the first Acadian families might have been found working and living, between the years 1632-1636, on the shores of the LaHave River (around the present day community of LaHave, Lunenburg). This first community, a dozen families, or so (there are no records), due to political reasons, were relocated to Port Royal sometime just after 1636. At any rate we pick up our story at Port Royal in 1640.
It is likely, that directly to Port Royal, René came out with his young wife Perrine (she was a Bourg, or a Bourc), together with their first born, a son, René[#11], junior, b.c.1640. We now know that this couple were married in France, before they came out to the New World.12 The only other thing I might say of this first family, at this time, is that they were to have ten children, the four males being: René (b.1640 [#11]), Pierre (b.1658 [#12]), Antoine (b.1660 [#13]), & Claude (b.1662 [#14]).13 In the census of 1671, we can see Rene (age 52), Perrine and certain of their children listed, including: Pierre (age 13), Claude (age 8); they have 10 cattle and 6 sheep. In the census of 1678, we again see Rene and Perrine with their two boys Pierre and Claude, living on an acre of land, and 10 cattle.

Originally from the village of Saintonge, France, Richard came to Acadia as part of the expedition of Emmanuel LeBorge and Guilbaut in 1652. In 1656 Richard married Madeleine Blanchard, daughter of Jean BLANCHARD and Radegonde Lambert. We are directly descended from four of their children. After Madeleine's death in 1681, Richard married Jeanne Babin, daughter of Antoine BABIN and Marie Mercier. Andre SIMON (later Simoneaux) b. 1665 Simon arrived in Acadia in 1686 and in 1688 he married Marie Martin, daughter of Barnabe Martin and Jeanne Pelletret

Jean Baptiste Carmouche dit Lorrain, born about 1692, ancestor of the Avoyelles Carmouche family, was a native of St. Laurent de Pont-de-Mousson, France. Pont-de-Mousson is located halfway between the cities of Nancy and Metz in the northeast corner of France. Nelson Gremillion in later works puts Jean Baptiste' birthplace as L'Ayrane, Bishopric of Taille, France. Carmouche migrated as a locksmith from the port of of Lorient, on the ship Gironde in 1720 to Mobile where he married and his son, Joseph Carmouche was born about 1742. Jean Baptiste died before 1753, at which time his estate included a plantation outside the city and a house and lot on Bourbon Street in New Orleans. Joseph married at Pointe Coupee in 1764 to Marie DuCote, and they had at least nine children, moving to Avoyelles about 1785. Their oldest daughter, Julie, married Marc Eliche, the founder and namesake of city of Marksville.
