Randy was named to continue the tradition of having an R.H. Garrett in
his father's family. There was much pressure put on me to name him
Reginald Hooker, Jr., but I couldn't abide the idea of having a child
known as "Little Reggie." The name of Randal was chosen because we liked
it; the Harrison, of course, was for my maiden name of Harrison.
He was baptized at Hillsdale-Chatworth Methodist Church, Baltimore,
Maryland by Rev. Benjamin Denton.

{Talbot Co. Tombstones, Vol 1.:58}
The Origins of the Sardis Subscription Quilt Around 1889, the ladies of
Sardis Chapel of St. Michaels, Talbot Co., MD, undertook an impressive
fund raising project. They made a large embroidered quilt with appliques
like those shown above, and those who paid a subscription signed their
names into one of the quilt's blocks. Today, this quilt hangs in a glass
case in St. Luke's United Methodist Church. It is quite faded and
delicate, but the names are still legible.
I visited St. Luke's in 1996 and photographed part of the quilt, and was
also given a photocopied transcription of the entire quilt, reproduced
here. If a name is followed by an asterisk [*], additional information
about this individual may be available in the Surname Index.

LITTLETON died before May 10, 1865 in Somerset Co., MD. Administrators,
Littleton H. Sturgis and James J. Moore filed account of his estate.
(Som. Accts SCL9:179-Leslie Powell Dryden, Dryden Family and Descendants,
Book I, 1992, p. 136)
He married PRISCILLA DRYDEN in Somerset Co., MD, October 4, 1825.
(license date)
PRISCILLA was born in Somerset Co., MD about 1804. PRISCILLA was
the daughter of MILLS DRYDEN and BETSY WINDER MURRAY. PRISCILLA died
before 1870. That Littleton was the son of Levi Sturgis is based on
circumstantial evidence: that he appeared on an 1822 deed with Levi; that
he would be named for Littleton Williams, his maternal grandfather, and
that his age tracks with that of one of the males living in Levi's
household from 1800-1820.
Littleton and his family appear in the Dublin District, Somerset Co., MD
for the 1850 and 1860 census. taken. (Leslie Powell Dryden, Dryden Family
and Descendants, Book I, 1992) On August 29,1850, Littleton, age 53, is a
farmer with real estate valued at $4,000. Priscilla 46, Mary, 20,
Priscilla Jr., 13, Littleton H., 11, Emma Grace is 9 and Handy 5. A John
Webb, 22, farmer, is living in their household. (1850 census, Dublin
District, 1 Division, page 413A)
Littleton, his wife, Miss Sarah Ann, Miss Elizabeth, Mary T., Priscilla,
Isaac M. Emma T. and Littleton H. are shown as communicants at Dividing
Creek Church as four adults and five children in Coventry Parish Records,
Vol. II, (no date-about 1846, as Sarah and Elizabeth weren't married yet)
