Muster Roll of men from the Maryland Line, attached to 21st Virginia
infantry, C.S.A. This was found bound in the back of a folio of Civil War
maps that was stored in the Peabody Library. The men were in Company B
and were mustered at Richmond. To see the original copy at the Peabody
Library, request: F912.7 U525 U.S. Army Corp of Engineers Military Maps
illustrating the operations of the Armies of the Potomac and James, May
4th 1864 to April 9, 1865. Anyway there is a John W. Harrison in this
list. He enlisted on May 23, 1861. He gives his birthplace as Carroll
County and his age as 24. His height is recorded at 5ft 8-1/2 in.
Complexion: Light hair and blue eyes. Most of the guys in this list are
from Baltimore, but some are from other Maryland counties, too. Only one
lists Westminster as a birthplace (he is Thos. H. B. Haase). No other
person lists Carroll County.
1850: Federal Census, living with mother; age 14.
1866: 20 December, marriage of John W. Harrison and Mollie
F. Maccubbin. {Baltimore Sun}
1872: mentioned in accounts of mother.
1880: there is a John W. Harrison, age 43, living in
Cracklin, Montgomery Co. MD. He may be the correct person. [Cracklin
District is the northeastern district in Montgomery Co., bordering Howard
and Carroll Counties.]
