Name referenced in a copy of a bill of sale dated 10 February 1813. James
Greenfield sold to Abraham Garrett "1 horse, 2 cows, and a Negro girl
named Sarah 12 years of age"
Nathaniel was also a Methodist minister. According to Methodist
historians there were different levels of ministers-with Amos ordained at
the highest level.
Nathaniel was on the Deer Creek Circuit and listed as an "exhorter"(the
lower level minister) at Waugh Chapel-which is on Long Green Pike
(Maryland)
(AND if you haven't yet seen "the Runaway Bride" with Julia
Roberts and Richard Gere- see it- because there wedding takes place in
that church!!! And in the scene where she takes her father from a bar it
says "GREENWOOD"- that is right at the corner of Long Green Pike and
Harford Road - just down the road from the Nathaniel's property Truman's
Acquaintance--I hadn't read that it was filmed there but I recognized
it!) In fact where she is riding her horse and the field their wedding
finally takes place in is probably right there also in fields like those
of Truman's Acquaintance property.
That makes the naming conventions make sense. One of Nathaniel's and
Elizabeth's children was named Aquilla Hatton Greenfield - he is the one
that became a merchant and council member in Baltimore and his son was
Aquilla Hamilton.
