From Baltimore Evening Sun February 14, 1980
Funeral services for Stewart H. Imwold, one of Hamilton's oldest
residents, will be held at 10 A.M. tomorrow at the Attenberg funeral
establishment, 1099 Harford Road.
After 55 years in the dairy business — first with his father's Hamilton
Farm Dairy and then for almost 20 years with Cloverland — Mr. Imwold
established a post-retirement gardening and lawn-tending business,
working for churches and homeowners in Hamilton until he was nearly 80.
He died from a stroke Tuesday after spending nearly six weeks at St.
Joseph nursing home in Ruxton.
Hamilton was still a mostly rural section of Baltimore County when Mr.
Imwold and his six brothers started working for the dairy operated by
their father, Samuel G. Imwold, who also was one of the founders of the
Hamilton Volunteer Fire Department.
Writing for the "I Remember When" feature in The Sunday Sun several years
ago, Mr. Imwold recalled how Hamilton purchased the second
gasoline-powered fire engine on the East Coast, the only one south of
Boston.
In other articles, he reminisced on the beginning of the development of
both Lauraville and Hamilton from farm country into residential
communities.
In Mr. Wold's youth, milk was delivered in cans by horse and wagon. When
pasteurization was mandated in the 1920s, his father was convinced it was
a fad that wouldn't last and their farm for several years became a
supplier for the Western Maryland Dairy.
With his wife of 66 years, the former Lean P. Lauer, Mr. Imwold had lived
about 55 years on Birchwood Avenue and later at 2708 Beechland Avenue. He
was a Mason, a member of the Tall Cedars of Lebanon and the Compass Club.
Besides his wife, survivors include two sons, Charles G. Imwold of
Catonsville and Warren F. Imwold of Palmyra, Pa., 16 grandchildren and
nine great-grandchildren.

Stewart and Lena were married at the home of the groom's parents, 5501
Hillen Road, on a Wednesday evening at 8:00 P.M., by the Rev. H.A. Maser,
of the First German Methodist Church.
